Kurban, the sacrifice of an animal during the Feast of Sacrifice, is a deeply rooted tradition and religious practice in Islam. It commemorates the devotion, sacrifice and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (a.s.) to Allah when he was commanded to sacrifice his son Ismail (a.s.). When Prophet Ibrahim (a.s.) showed his willingness to do so, Allah issued this command to him and had a ram sacrificed in Ismail’s place. In memory of this outstanding event, sacrifice is now a ritual duty for Muslims who are able to do so. However, sacrifice is not only a religious duty, but also an act of charity and support for those in need.
The Prophet (s.a.s.) says in a hadith: “The most beloved deed of a person by Allâhu ta’âlâ on the Day of Sacrifice is slaughtering, because a sacrificial animal comes on the Day of Resurrection with its horns, hair and hooves, and its blood reaches Allâhu ta’âlâ before it flows onto the ground. So do it with pleasure!” (Reported by Tirmidhi)
In another tradition about sacrifice it says: “It is a Sunnah of your father Abraham”, and the Companions asked the Prophet (s.a.s.) further: “What do we get in return?” He replied: “For every hair of the sacrificed animal, one good deed is counted.” (Reported by Ibn Maja)
What role does “Die gebende Hand e.V.” play in this?
Our association “Die gebende Hand e.V.” has set itself the task of collecting donations for the Feast of Sacrifice as part of our Kurban campaigns, using them to buy animals, slaughter them and pass them on to those in need on your behalf. By coordinating and distributing the donations, we ensure that your offering reaches those most in need and help you to fulfill your religious duty.
Help for the needy
The world is full of poverty and injustice. Donating to offerings provides the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of the poor.
With your donation we can achieve the following:
Food security: Distributing fresh meat to families in need ensures that these people receive nutritious meals and necessary vitamins during the festive season.
Strengthening communities: Donations support entire communities, which in turn leads to a stronger and more cohesive society.
Giving hope: With every donation, we send a message of hope and compassion to those who are often forgotten.
The importance of giving during the Feast of Sacrifice with Allah
Allah speaks about sacrifice in the Noble Qur’an:
“And for every community We have established a rite so that they may pronounce the name of Allah over the one with whom He has provided them in the four-footed animals among the cattle. Your God is One God, so be devoted to Him. And give glad tidings to those who humble themselves.” (Surah Al Hajj, verse 34)
“So pray to your Lord and sacrifice.” (Surah Al Kawthar, verse 2)
“Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah and do not follow up what they have spent with reproach or insult, they shall have their reward with their Lord, and no fear shall come upon them, nor shall they grieve.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 262)
Allah rewards those who share their possessions and help the needy. Kurban donations are not only a worldly help, but they are also a spiritual investment. Every act of generosity is highly valued and rewarded by Allah.
